The original game launched in 2005 and was purchased by Disney in 2007. On February 3, 2003, the game was released as Penguin Chat which included lots of more features than Experimental Penguins. It was released on July 30, 2000, and later closed in December. Disney pulled the plug on the official version in 2017, while other knock-off versions were popping up before getting shut down. Experimental Penguins was the oldest known Club Penguin prototype.
